Day 1. Why we started.

The first version of this brand was about space. One note from a teammate turned it around: start from the person in the seat.

Day 1 was a whiteboard.

September 2025. Four of us, and one word on the board: SPACION. We already had the name. That day we asked what it meant. What we believed about the brand that morning did not survive the next month, and this entry is about what changed it.

FIG. 01 — What the name is made of.

What did the first version say?

It said: space.

The first brief read like a mission statement. A spacecraft needs advanced technology and precise equipment so its crew can explore. A car deserves the same. Asked for one word to describe the brand, we wrote "very space."

It was complete, and it was consistent. It was also entirely about us and the product.

What was wrong with it?

A teammate read the whole brief and sent back one note. Everything in it described the product: space, technology, exploration. Nothing in it described the person using it.

Her point was simple. "Space" is what the brand looks like from the outside. A brand that lasts is built from what the person in the seat feels. Then she wrote the sentence we had been missing, from the driver's side:

When I get into the car and start the trip, this space makes me feel I am not just driving. I am launching.

What did she ask us to do instead?

Four things, in this order.

  1. Pick one group of people. Start narrow. Widen later.
  2. Pick one scene. From the outside, your car looks like every other one of its kind. Inside is where it becomes yours.
  3. Solve one problem. "This is the key one," she wrote. "And if it is not a pain, what is the pleasure we are giving?"
  4. Tell one story. Start from what our founder wanted in the car.

What changed in the brand?

The metaphor stayed. The point of view moved.

The spacecraft is still there, but now you are in it. The line we ended up with is hers, almost word for word: every time you get in, close the door and press start, it is like entering a capsule of your own.

The words we use for the brand changed too. Out went the words for how it looks. In came the words for how it feels to use: leading, intelligent, adventurous, immersive.

And one reading of the name moved to the front. On is the switch. It is also I + On: a person, switched on. She called it the best idea in the brief. That is the version we kept.

It was not a hard turn to make. We are the person in the seat: our founder drives a Tesla, and so do the people who built this brand.

What do we hold ourselves to?

A spacecraft runs on equipment that was specified, tested and checked before launch. The person in the seat deserves the same. So, three rules.

RULE 01 : [ Every product has a readable spec ]  //  RULE 02 : [ Problems are reported by us, first ]  //  RULE 03 : [ Fixes are published ]

Next comes more of the cabin: the parts you touch, charge and look at. Same rules for every one of them.

Engine off. Take your time.
